DIGITIZING A MORE COMPLICATED LOGO

This job was done years ago and was an utter mess. Most of the sign and design trade had long switched to computer generated artwork and vector files but we had one local artist/designer who could only draw simple shapes and enter tex into a digital design program. This art like most he did that had a lot of elements was drawn in ink on paper then scanned at the highest resolu adbie, tion his computer was capable. This was in the days of 100 MB and 250 MB Zip Drives and CD burners being relatively new. This file after he scanned it was too big to drag onto a 100 MB Zip Drive plus he did not know how to export files in any format other than the proprietary files his Macromedia Freehand defaulted to. If someone needed an adobe, corel, pdf or other type file had to go to his office and sit at his desk and export the file onto your own disk. The file was just under 300MB so I took three CDRs and burned his file to my disks in an adobe, corel and wmf file. Due to the ragged lines where his ink bled into the fibers of his paper, the high resolution he scanned at many elements would have six to ten copies of the same shape stacked on top of each other and some shapes that only needed a half dozen points had several dozen. It took a full day jsut to delete the exta stacked shapes, two days to reduce the points then the rest of the week to smooth and properly shape each element. A graphic that we received as 282 MB in size after we went through it, reduced redundant shapes, smotthed and reduced points the final size was 450 KB and twenty times sharper.
