AA4BA WORK TOWER CONTINUES

Before topping out the tower with the final sections and antennas, it was time for the most important task.  Grounding.  Before we got too much of the stick in the air, I wanted to make sure we had at least a basic ground in case of a lighting strike before the project was completed.  The bare minimum standard for an antenna ground is three, eight foot rods in a halo configuration all bonded together, to the tower and to the building electrical ground.  Because of eddy currents, there needs to be a minimum spacing of six feet between rods.  Of course you can never have too many ground rods so we placed a total of nine rods for this portion of the job..

THE THREE RODS THAT BOND DIRECTLY TO THE TOWER PLACED

NOTICE THEY ARE ALSO INTERCONNECTED USING COPPER GROUNDING WIRE

VERY HEAVY GAUGE STRANDED WIRE USED TO BOND TOWER LEGS TO RODS

WE REMOVED PAINT FROM SECTIONS OF LEGS BEFORE ATTACHING WIRES

NEXT WIRES WERE DOUBLE CLAMPED USING STAINLESS HARDWARE AND THEN PAINTED

ALL GROUND RODS WERE 8 FOOT LONG COPPER PLATED

RODS WERE ALL DOUBLE CLAMPED USING ONE COPPER PLATED BRONZE & ONE STAINLESS CLAMP

WE INTERCONNECTED ALL RODS WITH TWO WIRES INSTEAD OF ONE JUST FOR EXTRA PEACE OF MIND
